Today’s playtest impressions might be better described as a series of playtest drivebys. This last weekend we did a review of Release Candidate 4 for MWLL 0.5.6 and we are continuing to discover small (and some not so small) issues with the build process and are implementing some changes to that system to try and make things smoother in the future. I have a really good feeling about RC5 which should be ready for review later this week. We also tested the alpha branch for a few new features that are in development and to get some seat time with the Black Lanner and Ryoken as we enter into final technical design and balance for those two assets.
As you might note in these images the HUD changes between the new (alpha build) and released (beta RC build) depending on what was being tested at the time.

Here we have two Black Lanners dueling at close range on TC_Inferno. The far unit also showcases the new small tripod weapon mount which we hope to make greater use of in upcoming features.

This is what happens when the build release script runs over your texture pathings. RC4 was a non-starter.

A quick screengrab showing an array of beam weaponry being brought to bear in a particle/decal stress test.

Showing off some work in progress with a new laser damage decal and particle system.

Trying out aerospace on the experimental TC_Inferno level.

The Clan Ryoken – playable in the alpha build.

Showing off some further refinements to the in-progress Mech HUD development while playing TC_Inferno. Note the weapon group indicator is no longer bound to a strict horizontal treatment.
A random screengrab from the editor while reviewing a long-awaited fix…
I hope that you’ve enjoyed this random peek into one of our weekly playtests and
