Another random person on the web tried to get into our MWLL Wiki trying to brute force their way through our login site. So far we haven’t found any successful attempts in hijacking a user account and no changes to the Wiki have been logged. It might just have been another robot tried to get data it was not supposed to.
This attack was originating from a single address starting at 18/Dec/2010:10:49:14 resulting in 12049 attempts to access the login page. We have added this address to our blocklist denying all and any access to our server.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused when accessing our services.
We have been having issue for the past few hours starting at 5:17 AM GMT with our website being overloaded with requests. As it turned out the MWLL Wiki has been a target of a fake robot pretending to be Majestic-12 (http://www.majestic12.co.uk/projects/dsearch/mj12bot.php) which caused the server to run under very high load. We have been able to identify the offending IP’s and started rejecting them. Server load is now running as low as usual again without any interruptions of other sites.
The intentions of those fake robots are unknown but likely they only farmed same data found on the website. No other parts of the system were affected by the robot, no access was gained during the attack.
Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
