Maverick Servers and Gaming is a provider of game servers, voice comm and website hosting services with datacenters located around the globe.  Maverick Servers and Gaming currently supports over 70 different games and can add additional games to their service by request.

MechWarrior: Living Legends will be hosting 2 dedicated Crysis Wars servers with Maverick Servers and Gaming for both public official servers and an additional server for our internal Alpha Testing environment.

So far we haven’t found any successful attempts in hijacking a user account and no changes to the Wiki have been logged. It might just have been another robot tried to get data it was not supposed to.

This attack was originating from a single address starting at 18/Dec/2010:10:49:14 resulting in 12049 attempts to access the login page. We have added this address to our blocklist denying all and any access to our server.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused when accessing our services.

As it turned out the MWLL Wiki has been a target of a fake robot pretending to be Majestic-12 (http://www.majestic12.co.uk/projects/dsearch/mj12bot.php) which caused the server to run under very high load. We have been able to identify the offending IP’s and started rejecting them. Server load is now running as low as usual again without any interruptions of other sites.

The intentions of those fake robots are unknown but likely they only farmed same data found on the website. No other parts of the system were affected by the robot, no access was gained during the attack.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The results were more than impressive and the team would like to thank all contributors for their hard work. No less than 19 different people contributed to the wiki since its launch, creating 81 pages with actual content and uploading 39 images. Since its launch, the Wiki has been viewed more than 20,000 times by almost 2300 unique visitors already, who created more than 500MB of traffic in this short period of time.

As a little gesture of our thankfulness and respect for this achievement and the quality of the volunteer team’s work, we’ve decided to replace all links from our factions pages for Inner Sphere and Clans with links to the according pages in the Wiki – until further notice.

Thank you everyone and keep up the good work!

As a last remark for this post and to avoid any confusion, we’d like to state again that Sky_walker is not part of the MWLL dev team at this time, but ‘just’ a very dedicated member of MWLL’s fantastic community. Therefore, please abstain from contacting him regarding MWLL development as has happened in the past.

Most of this activity is useful, entertaining or helpful – others isn’t. It is for this reason we’ve decided to introduce two established community features to allow the community to reward good contributions – and contain the not so good ones.

While these features are currently enabled with as few restrictions as possible, we’d still like to ask you to use them wisely – don’t ‘smite’ posts just because you dislike the poster for example. A user you dislike might still have posted a useful comment, guide or piece of advice – be fair and ‘applaud’. Just as much, don’t say ‘thank you’ for the sheer appearance of posters, but for useful, entertaining and thought-out posts.
