Title: 31,000 Scientists against Global Warming caused by humans, What do you think?
Post by: Exanimous on July 03, 2008, 11:12:57 PM
Don't believe me? Click on this link:

It was very recent, and all this talk about the "green channel" and your "carbon footprint" and "An Inconvenient Truth." now all seems like a big sham. Do you believe global warming is caused by humans? What do you think of this startling turn?

I haven't believed humans had that much to do with it for awhile now.  Although I'm sure we don't help a whole lot.  Its been pretty much proven now that global warming is a cycle, none the less it can't be that great for us either way.  Makes me glad I live inland  :P

I believe global warming was caused by an increase in the Earth's temperature :downs:.

I may have only studied computer science and not meteorolgy but having been told quite a few times that global warming would cause an ica age kinda made me suspicious. I don't remeber ever trying to make ice by heating it up but it does seem contraindicated...

I believe you're right, that is why it is more reasonable to say we are coming 'out of an' ice age than about to go into one.

Well the idea is that as the ice melts it would have a signigicant impact on some specific ocean current and eliminating it.  This would actually cause the earth to instead go colder instead of hotter.  Can't really remember the specifics.

I think the general thing about Global Warming ISN'T literally warming, but global climate change (which might be what this statistic is based from).

I.E.  The northern area's might get abnormally warm weather, while some southern area's and desert-climates might receive abnormally cold/snowy weather.

Some area's might get abnoramlly lots of rain annually while other area's would dry up like a desert.

I honestly think the whole global warming thing is simply based off annual global temperatures on average, and not some kind of actual detailed report on different climate zones, which scews the perception and results of the data abit.  The good ol' "average temperature of the earth" to me seems like a strange statistic to quote considering every area and climate zone of Earth is completely different, and in several areas actually, it was reported record cool temperatures.

If all this is true, then what happens wouldn't really be global warming, but would have the climate meeting more "extremes" in temps instead of a middle ground (in otherwords climates might more often be in the two different extremes of hot and cold on average instead of being mild).

Let me tell you though, here in Ohio, I've hardly had any hot weather this summer and it's in july.  It's almost like a REALLY late spring, as we've been getting lots of rain and cooler temperatures.  I don't think it's gotten 85F+ at all this summer yet here (which is very unusual).  Then again that doesn't say much except that we have had a cold summer so far.

The Global warming stuff is based on computer models of the atmosphere.  These are the same models that so accurately predict our weather a week or two in advance.   :-\

Now the further out in the future the predictions are, the less accurate they become.   ::)

So for tomorrow's prediction the models may be a bit better than my arthritis, but a month or 2  down the road they are tied with the woolly caterpillar.  For six months or more, trust Punxsutawney Phil (for you out of towners, he is the official groundhog from Pennsylvania).   ;D

That's a good point Beowulf, but the question is, was an Inconvenient truth based on such data? And is it possible to be more accurate than that?

Good old Al based his "Inconvenient Truth" on bull.   ::)

The polar bears are not dying out.  In fact there are more now than at any time since records have been kept.  The Northern Ice cap is not melting as much as he claimed (The Southern ice cap is actually expanding) and those pictures of ice falling off are in fact a normal annual occurrence.  That is where ice burgs come from (Remember the Titanic).  ;D

But we shouldn't be to hard on Al.  He really needs a gig.   :D ;D

So you're saying Al wasn't telling the truth when he blamed SARS and bird flu on global warming? NO! LIAR!!!

31,000 scientists? so what about the other couple hundred thousand?
statistics are just biased crap that the creator uses to make it seem like something is what it is not. since people are using them on both sides of the argument, why don't we just cut our pollutants, which have been proven to be harmful, ship our garbage into the sun, and wait and see if we all burn to death. who knows, maybe the climate will shift so much i can finally have my pet polar bear??

lol click the link its not a statistic its just a count. And global warming is a BS propaganda front for socialism. If these people actually cared about the earth they would be talking about the mercury and led that coal burning produces and not the C02. I think its funny that people are dieing rite now from pollutants but these enviro-mentalists would rather talk about how it might kill us a few hundred years from now. GE whos the parent company of NBC sponsored a Green Week for the networks. GE has hundreds of hazardous clean up sites all over the USA that  they refuse to deal with. Some of these sites have destroyed entire cities. Were wasting money trying to make cars in the USA cleaner when our cars account for about 2% of Co2 produced. So were spending and people are making billions of dollars based on a percent of a percent of a percent of an issue that has no hard evidence backing it up. Brilliant. If you want to stop Co2 then do something about the deforestation in South America. That whats actually causing it.

Its called the Green movement because green is the color of money, not because of the environment.

I read the entire report review these scientists wrote and agreed on.
Fantastic stuff.
I believe the facts and support them.
Except one thing.
There is a huge amount of human hot air-gas from the mouths of Politicians that may contribute.
I have not done the calculations on that yet.
But, I am convinced it is affecting the Global Warming.
Just due to the huge amount given off the that type of air-gas...

Al Gore is full of it. I got to see his little presentation in person twice. I felt like the single dissenter in the crowd when I was the only one not giving a standing ovation at the end.

He also pulled that I should have been president crap before the presentation... he should have showed more balls to the Supreme Court instead of whining about it 7-8 years later.

Humans certainly aren't helping the situation with deforestation and emissions, but it isn't entirely us.

Whether humans, cars, or farting cows are doing the global warming, which I also believe is total crap, the earth goes through cycles of renewal.  This is proven in how the universe moves and our solar system within it.  This is proven by how the earth and its oceans move within and as a result of gravity brought on not only by our moon, but also the solar system.  The ice caps in the north will be gone in September, according to several NOAA scientists and landowners in Iceland who've been tracking the decline of snow and ice in their region for decades, now.

Because of the way our environment planetwide is constructed, the planet is made to renew itself, and it will do it no matter how many human beings there are.  The more people, the more upheaval of mother earth.  There are volcano's that go off once every 600 years, and we really don't know when the last time was in the U.S. that these volcanoes went off because records for our nation have only been in keeping for the last 300 years.  When Yosemite, Mount Hood, and half a dozen other mountains go off within the next 250 years or so, and when places like San Francisco and all of those along the San Andreas fault go off, people will die, the environment will renew itself, and we humans will begin our viral spread yet again.

The earth will take care of itself.  However, it's not a bad idea to keep ourselves healthier through developing clean-burning or green technologies, and I believe it will help us into the next step of our 'evolution' -for those of you who believe in that other nonsense, I mean our technology, our knowledge framework, not how we as human beings will adapt- so we can get out into space and begin exploring.

'Nuff said, I have an IMPS movie to watch.

lol we should just make cleaner and healthier products, as you say, for OUR health. it is true the earth will renew itself, much like many things in nature. so maybe we should all just go to space? we sooo could have had a lunar colony by now if we weren't so busy sh!ting on our economy by wiping Iraqs behind for it and all the other fun stuff
