Yeah, though it's to be expected Smiley

Maybe we can run the contest for another month and just include it in the Newsletter?

No problem!

We can do all the effects (preferred). All you need to do is say it however you want or what you think is best. Sexy, robotic, normally.. hell, do multiple if you want!

A little bit sexy sounds good.  But I also like the artificial, almost robot tone.

I noticed movies like Red Planet used voices from AT&T Natural Voices.
For example, Lucile (the ship's computer) uses US English Crystal Voice.
And the pressure suits that the ground team uses is the voice from US ENGLISH MIKE.

http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/demos/

I use the above link to type in the text I need read.  Sometimes you have to spell phonetically.  But the result is interesting.  Anybody who's seen RED PLANET (Val Kilmer) paste "I tried to warn you commander." and select US ENGLISH CRYSTAL and hit play.

Of course you need to get the full version to do things like adjust read speed and tone.  Which is a definite improvement.

I tried posting some of the more commonly used lines in MW2 and came up with some cool results.  But I had to play around with spelling and timing by changing lines from "Heat level, critical"  to "Heat level: Critical."

Its probably not for MWLL, but you have to agree some lines do work.  Its probably to "mechanical" for some. Smiley

EDIT*
I was curious as to how this would sound.  I made it using a copy of readplease 2003 and the at&t natural voices plugin that I own.

Thank's Khan, I was expecting REALLY robotic but it actually turned out not THAT bad. It sounds like it's struggling about half way through, but the first half actually sounded smooth.

This is a variant filter that actually made it sound like one of the Armored Core computer voices..

Certain words are mispronounced by the text2speech engine.  So I edited the wave and changed things that sounded like NAAAHVIGATOR to simply "navigator".  I also had to misspell a few words to get them sounding right.

She still sounds like she's saying "aauutopilot" instead of just "autopilot" though Cheesy

Good luck finding the right woman for the job.

I'm leaning more towards 2, but 1 sounds good too. I'll have to post a filter Poll next month when we get our winner(s)..

Hey All! To kick off the month of November, Mechwarrior Living Legends team is holding a Betty contest!

Betty, as most of you know, is the sexy and sometimes sultry sounding voice of the Battlemech computers in the Mechwarrior series. What we'd like to do is have a little contest to see if anyones wives, girlfriends, daughters, friends can produce a Betty voice!

The winner(s) will be showcased in the November Newsletter for MW:LL and possibly included into the first release of the mod! not guaranteed

What you need to do:
(1) Obtain Girlfriend/Wife/Daughter/Female Friend (or if you are one, skip this step)
(2) Record a line from Mechwarrior Betty's (Bottom of this post are some example lines)
(3) Host the file somewhere
(4) Post link here!

Recording Format: 44khz, 16bit, Mono
File formats we will accept:
.ogg, .wav, .mp3

Here's an example file my girlfriend did:
http://landrosradick.shackspace.com/Mech/AP-AYT.wav

We'll be providing the "effect" of sounding like Betty, so there's no need to edit the file itself! Just send us the voice sample and we'll modify it and post it back here! Again, PLEASE do not add your own effects to the audio file!

Some tips for recording:
Have a noise canceling microphone (most microphones, including desktop ones provide this these days)
Hold the microphone about 4-6 inches AWAY from the mouth and nostril area, preferably to the side as to not pick up any breathing.
Give it multiple takes (and it's ok to host the file with multiple takes on it) until you or her feel comfortable with the recording.

Example Text:
"Ammunition Level Critical"
"Shutting down"
"Light Amplification Engaged"
"Autopilot Engaged"
"Autopilot Disabled"
"Image Enhancement Engaged"
"Shutdown Sequence initiated"
"Heat Level, Critical"
"Shutdown overridden"
"Enemy Mech Destroyed"
"All Points, attacking your target"
"Heat Level, Critical"
"Satellite link, established"
"Chain fire, engaged"
"Group Fire, engaged"
"All points, report target destroyed"
"Enemy Power up detected"
"Self Destruct sequence initiated"

you forgot the best one
