Warhammer Online gets a resounding neg from me. Having been in the beta for a bit I can say that it does not capture the feel of Warhammer at all. It simply feels like just another standard MMO with a Warhammer graphic theme.

The Warhammer40k MMO is in development.
I saw job postings on HighEnd3D a few months back.
If they can mix FPS, RTS and RPG into an MMO I'd be there.
I just hate "Standard" MMORPG's but I like Character Development which I feel can be presented in different ways than grind mobs and work for stat-based gear. PvP-Based Character Development is the way to go on a massive scale. What scares me is that "MMO's" have been gradually getting smaller as the developers cater to the D&D crowd of 5-man's and instances.
A 40-man "Raid" isn't nearly as enthralling as a 200-man "Zerg".

You just crushed my hopes for this game in three easily former sentences. If you speak the truth I'll have to return to Eve

Can I ask when you were in the beta?
(I don't really judge anything TOO in depth from a beta, unless it's the open stress test beta)

A battletech MMO just might be in the works. The creators of Battletech,Shadowrun and previous owners of FASA have bought back the rights to the game in Nov 2007.This website here,
http://www.smithandtinker.com/
Is where you can contact them.If im not mistaken they are assembling a team to try and bring these worlds to life online.Microsoft was sitting on a gem and blew it by not pursuing an online MMO for a rich universe like Battletech. We the players and Battletech communities have a golden opportunity here to be directly involved before some suit decides whats best for the series a la Wizkids.
Spead the word and make it reality.

I don't expect you to be checking back here, but just in case... what makes you think S&T is working on *anything* BT related? Just because they licensed the stuff back from MS?

Just read about that on WiKi and was wondering the same thing. They bought the licenses way back and nothing happened or has been announced on their webpage since then. Something else I was wondering: Since they bought the licenses does that interfere in any way with this mod?

We have no reason to believe so.

Lots of ideas here.Negative constructive feedback is important too since there are aspect of MMOs that some do not like.Grinding is a big one.Go to point A and collect X amount of X then return is repetitive and gets boring after a while.Scanning the net there is plenty of interest for a Battletech MMO.Now since smith & tinker has the rights to Battletech, and theres a number of free battletech online type games, why not join forces ?Im talking about ISW(innersphere wars),this one here,The MUX BT online and such.I love the ISW mech drops and its free but the drawback is the fact you need to pay real money for upgraded weapons to compete.I would much rather pay a monthly fee than play for free and never be able to compete because my income cant afford it.
Im sure theres enough interest so that the creators of the free BT games can see if they can actually get paid for what they are doing instead of having 12 different projects with little financial help because they are free so as not to violate copyrights.I will be firing off an email to smith and tinker about this as well if they havent already contacted some of you already.
Forums like this one can be the ideas and training grounds for a potential BT online MMO.Even if it takes a few years. But given how fast we are consuming information now,and all parties involved cooperated towards a common goal it could very well take less time.

ah but see , while the universe is huge , missions are generally not
and just imagine it , you and ur little merc band
trundle off and accept a Draconis combine contract to attack a davion force that is secretely on one of their plannets
contract lasts for 6months (game time, and is quite a short contract)
so u run off to find those nasty davions
you do find them and kill them , but some esscape
so your next mission is to kill the ones that esscaped before they can leave the plannet
but ! they manage to get a transmission out to call for renforcements
who rock up , just as you waist the last survivors, face with a new threat you retreat to the nearest DRAC city
the the davions dont let up, and attack the city
dracs call for renforcements and so do the davions
and pretty soon , you realise you just started a war
then on the little dirt ball on the edge of the solar system where only about 12 players were in action (including the davions you waisted earler)
now there are hundrends of players rocking up to the planet
then war would spread to the near by plannets and so forth and so forth
i rekon battle tech would be the best mmo out there
cause it would have every possable player class available (like traders, engineers, pilots, infantry, medics, tankers, artillery, aerospace, transport pilots and so on
i would start the game off at the 2nd succession war
that way, the star league is very very gone, and most of the good technology is too
but then you have lots and lots of new content to add , then the clans could invade
new content is almost endless
i think this game tho would be better off left alone for about 20years
then we would have the technology to pull it off correctly
Think of how many professions you could play and a skill based system that was interchangable. So one month you could be a tank gunner and next an aerospace pilot.Mechwarriors, tankers, pilots need a place to relax right?lets head over to the local bar an check out some strippers.Think cantina here from old SWG.Or duel it out on Solaris in mechs or fistacuffs /blasters and get C-bills or H-bills for it.Five houses to choose from or start your own merc unit.of course no commander will assign just anyone a mech as they are expensive so certain qualifications are needed like a Master weaponsmith and understanding of engineering before you become a novice mech pilot. In addition a certain degree of loyalty for house troops before High command issues you a vehicule or mech. This would be where quests/ missions from House command come in.
Betrayal would be dealt with harshly as bounties are placed on players for all factions to grab.In additon AI mercs would hound you constantly to collect as well as players.
AI using our own tactics against us ,using cover ,and picking fights in bars if your standing is non-existant.
Ill be back in few more weeks after i jot down some more ideas across the net on other boards.

Why wouldnt I be back?
Because we've had a bunch of such one post-posters, people who just dropped by to tell us about S&T acquiring a license for BT, so something like that as a first post wasn't the best possible entry to this forum in my book.

Because they didn't announce anything so far, not even any specific plans. Most of the old Weisman universes have their fair share of supporters, they might just as well be working on one of those - or nothing at all.

I dont understand why it wouldnt be for the good of battletech fans.I mean if we dont show an interest then of course nothing will be done. This is probably why there ISNT a battletech MMO and why Microsoft hasnt made one.But alas people do have different tastes so i take my leave.Sorry about the posts.Peace man.

guys, there is already an mmo for BT and its
http://www.iswars.com/
its legal work is all in order and i do believe that they are also in discussions with smith and tinker.and it should go live this year sometime.their biggest hurdle is that there is 1 guy doing all the coding in this, there have been helpers, but they were not very reliable,to say the least.the other draw back is that there is only 2 guys mapping for this, so as u can imagine there is a huge back log of maps and coding.
the upside of this is that it can be easily integrated into any new mw game that comes out.
personally i like isw, the guys are friendly[in your faction] and a lot of you mech fans will know the regular beta testers there.
and all the houses are there, plus mercs
