Running MechWarrior 3 on Vista?

I've had a bit of nostalgia and I'd like to play it again, but it doesn't work. I've run the installer in compatibility mode for 95/98, with 256 colours and all the possible boxes ticked, but I just get an error message when I try to install it. Anyone know of a way to play it?

Oh well, I bought MW4 with the expansion of eBay, I'll need it now anyway.

Yeah, the very first thing I did after app'ing to join the team was to reinstall MW4: mercs on my newer system. Wish it suppoprted 1680 x 1050 pixels though. Anyone know if there's a patch to bump the resolution beyond 1024 x 768?

Have you guys tried out http://www.mw3.org to get MW3 running? These guys are experts at getting this running, and a mod is being worked on by AncientxFreako and normblow to update installation protocols to allow the game to work. Good people there.
