Yes, PPC's do EM damage as well as heat. One of the things I'm working on these days, actually.

Although from what I remember in the good ol' days, EM effects didn't involve anything other than a hud scattering effect and mabey a few sensors blanking out for a couple of seconds.
What really was a bitch was heat effects, shutting your mech down to cool down
I remember in MW3 when I was feeling particuarly devious, I would turn on the cheats excepts god mode, jump in "Wave Reinforcements" mode, and proceeed to spontaniously-explode an army of Bushwackers with 12 flamers on a Diashi
I always liked how in MW3 when you overheated past a critical point you mech would explode in a very nuclear-ish fasion.

PPC blasts...currently...just HUD scatter.
And no offense meant, as for your CHEATing antics...not impressive.
I for one hope you have grown up....., before you get your hands on MWLL.

Those options in the game menu? They're nice for some anger management, among other things like KorJax described it. As said, those are options given by the game itself, not third party software. I wouldn't judge someone based on that.

Not to mention is had giant red letters at the bottom of the screen saying "DISHONORABLE," so you couldn't post vids of it either. It was just good fun when you wanted to take out 50 Jenner look-a-likes after it killed you in the campaign mode.
As a funny side story, we interviewed a kid yesterday who said he ran an internet business. I thought it was interesting and asked him to explain it. Apparently he made bootleg copies of SOCOMM with cheats built in for the PS2 and sold them online. When we inquired to it's legality, he admitted to knowing it was against the law.
I wasn't pleased, and he won't be getting hired.

EMP, mainly from discharged effects of the ionized PPC bolts had no bearing on the internal power systems of the Mech. The Discharge would temporally "Fritz" comms and targeting, but the onlyt hing poweful enough to override the power out put of a fusion reactor (Even the pre-star league era moddles) was a nuclear fission blast detonated in the upper atmosphere. Due to the internal Make up of a Mech the Gyro and the pilots own sense of blance, would keep the mech standing, and the Fuse-contact, circuits would reroute (multi-redundant) and restore targeting and communications in a matter of moments.

On a side note the use of atomics and WMDS we banned during the the expansionist era of Old-Earth.

Which is why Clan Wolverine was the subject of a Trial of Annihilation after using one on a Clan Snow Raven genetic repository.

My point exactly. Atomics were deemed to destructive. Although they complete their objective, they also poduce alot of waste and contamination which garners no advantage or product. In order to preven worlds from becoming balls of radio active as they were banned... hell they even appended the Ares Convention of Warfare to exile them from use.

Great post. Well explained too - always wondered why the hud would go nuts but my reactor stayed online. Not to mention that my hud actually came back. I thought there is nothing left but molten chips

Weren't they using them during the Age of War? On a side note I love the reference in the House Liao book to the
really
early Liao tossing grenades that destroyed big buildings. Nuke grenades anyone?

It's more what they destroyed than how they did it. Using a nuke just made it worse. The same thing probably would have happened to them if they blew it up some other way.

Atomics where never entirely banned by the Ares Convention. You just had to be a certain distance from a planet to use them.

Heh yeah, they were quick to realise the futility of nukes after 90% of their tech got lost. About EMPs though, it shouldn't do more than disrupt sensors and stuff since all mechs have EMP shielding.

I use to love getting in a supernova and firing all my large lasers at once and exploding.

What's particularly fun is slapping about 20 SRM6's on a mech with infinite ammo+no heat enabled, and just blasting them at other mechs... not only would it always produce a crater but all mechs within like... 50 meters of the blast would trip and fall down
