I am looking to buy a simple PC set up that will run some games. My current machine took a dump, and my Mac Book Pro can only do so much. Price is a very real concern for me, so I am trying to get the most bang for my buck.

Here are a few things I am looking at, please let me know what your thoughts are, and any deals you might have a link to I should see.

http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=191

I am looking for something around a 1,000 bucks without the monitor. Speed and performance with as little frills to keep cost down.

Any suggesions on where and what kind of machine to build?  Grin

If USD 300,00 don't make a difference - no doubt, get the second machine.
The only thing I'd (definitely) change about that machine is the CPU. At least get the E6750, better the E6850 or even the Q6600.
If you can spare a few extra bucks, consider getting the EVGA SLI enabled video card instead of just a "randombrand" video card.

Seeing that you plan to buy the liquid cooling system, you'd be even be able to make use of the excellent OC'ing capabilities of recent intel CPUs.

The first machine would require many adjustments.
First, the 420Watt PSU is a dead birth. I doubt you'd get more from it than a lot of smoke and bad smell upon first start as it's most certainly not able to feed video cards in a SLI setup.
8500GT video card? I wouldn't purchase any 8* series except for 8800. Better one 8800GT than 2 8500GT.

8800 GT512, 8800 GTS512, 8800 GTX or 8800 Ultra. Any other 8xxx are useless for games like Crysis. 8800 GT512 have probably the best ratio $$$/perfs/consommation.

If it's possible to build a Dual-QuadCore w/8GB Ram and an 8800 for $1500 I have no doubts in my mind you can build a solid system for a grand.

I've a question.

I've a 8800 GTS512, a Core2Duo E6300 and 2Go DDR2. Under Vista. And, I can't max the graphics, with a resolution of 1280x1024... Strange or not ? Setting all to high I'm under 30fps.

You could easily  oc that c2d e6300 to 3GHz. I would reccommend putting 2x AA on High Textures, High Shaders, High Particles, High Sound, and everything else to low.

you didn't add the free t-shirt? you lose at least 15fps without it!!

on a serious note... don't go with th generic PSU, definitely pick one of the more reliable brands (you can check hardocp.com for some PSU reviews or check their forums for some good advice)

Holy crap, I have to say that first PC you linked to is pretty good.  I have the Q6600 and to this day I can't find anyone who can render faster than me in Max.

I really hope you dont plan on buying a prebuilt from either of those vendors(their actually the same company!). You would be better off running around naked in Harlem with the money taped to your body them buying form them. Build it your self and pocket the 500$ they charge you over the cost of parts.

Not exactly true.  I can run Crysis on Medium settings and I'm using an 8500 GT with a dual core core AMD processor(3.0GHZ per core).  A dual core or quad core processor is a must if you want to run Crysis.  I've read in more than a few places that Crysis runs way better if you have a quad or dual core.  Try to make sure your PC is balanced.  Don't skimp on RAM either.

Crysis doesn't run better if you have a quad core.
