Crysis doesn't run better if you have a quad core.

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182806/index.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;1

THis is a quote from Gamespots hardware guide:

"CPU
Crysis likes multicore processors. It doesn't care how many there are, or even how fast they are, as long as you have at least two cores. However, if you're chugging along on a single-core processor, you might want to look into getting a new CPU."

There is no support for quad cores in Crysis, the other two cores will remain idle.

Unless you're running a debuger at the same time.  Grin

Seriously, I built my system for around $800 and it'll max out crysis, even while running a debuger in the background. Shop around and put it together yourself. You gunt need a philips head screwdriver and one socket driver for the standoffs. Pricewatch if you're patient can turn up some good prices, newegg's not bad either, and there's the added conveniance of everything getting shipped in one or two boxes.

Tigerdirect.com would be another good place to keep an eye.  I agree newegg.com would be another good choice.

Actually, that's not necessarily true. When they first started this was true because they were operating slightly in the red or just into the black to develop their reputation but they don't do that anymore. A local store here in town beat them on my CPU by $25, a different website had my video card for $15 less, etc. If you shop around you realize that they don't have the best price on everything. That said, I still bought my whole system from them in parts because it is a good price, convenient, and the service is fair.

Definitely stay away from ibuypower (Link) as their reputation and support are pretty bad.

So building an 8 core machine (you know who you are) wouldn't help you run Crysis?

Most bang for your buck?

Use your old DVDrom and hard drive.

Get a 9600 for 150
A 4000x2+ AMD for 100
A mobo for 40
A case for 30
A power unit for 30.

$350.

No such machine exists yet however Intel is working on a 6 core CPU.

There are no 8 core chips, but there are dual quad core systems already out.

You can get Phemom CPU's in socket F, btw, so it is possible.

In a way your right.  However I think he meant 1 cpu 8 cores which isn't currently possible.  The most I've heard of a 6 core cpu Intel is working on.

Also, AMD's next Opteron is supposed to come in an 8 core, 128-bit flavor.
