Atlas vs Atas or an Atlas stomping a Marauder (nicked "P*********")
Heabutt? Maybe. Stomp? Laughable. No way an ungainly Mech such as the Atlas could ever compare to the svelte maneuverability of my beloved Marauder.

Yeah, I was gonna say a headbutt wouldn't do a whole lot to a Cyclops.

So this means no Hatchetman? I'd be tempted to model one myself (I teach 3ds max to high-school students), but I figure the reason for it not being implemented is a coding/physics problem.
'tis my favorite

I'm surprised no one has asked what happens to a mech when he's down?
I mean, realistically, you can choose to aim semi-blindly(less so if it's towering over you) at something and fire, or choose to get up...

No, not really.
The initial selection of vehicles - which includes Mechs, tanks, battle armor, aircraft - was chosen by a number of criteria but not with that many worries about implementation involved, not least because the mod was supposed to be released for another engine for quite some time.

So... are you saying no no hatchetman, or no implementation does NOT present technical issues, go ahead and model it? Or is it a balance issue?

Feel free to go ahead and model it. If Criminal and Kamikaze like what they see, you might even be invited to join the team. However, the Mechs and other vehicles that will be released with the first public release of MWLL are the ones currently to be found at
http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/content/view/45/70/
and it is not likely that changes to the faction equipment lists will occur, so I wouldn't expect to see the Hatchetman in 1.0, even if you could provide a fully modeled, textured, rigged and animated object ready for import. The main reason for this is indeed balancing.

you´r more than right ... the Atlas is slow ´n´ the pilot more than often falls asleep doing torso-twists ...

Personally i think melee sounds a bit silly, but if you want to do it, i'm not completely sure how it would work. Surely if these things can punch each over and then stomp on each other, then it would just be a race to see who can punch the other one first and then stomp on them to stop them getting up. Even if they did get up after being stomped on, wouldn't they be so close that one would just punch the other over again. I think it will be quite hard to implement without it becoming the focal point of most confrontations.
