The Orphan Works Bill basically says, the United States Government is granting anyone access to your artwork, and you have no rights to it. If you wanted to protect your own work, you would have to pay to get the copyright. You have to pay TO KEEP YOUR OWN ARTWORK.

Here is an audio file of an interview that explains the entire thing.
http://www.sellyourtvconceptnow.com/orphan.html

The makers of this bill have lied to congress and convinced them that it will only free up the work of old, dead artists, songwriters, etc. This is a LIE! The bill will be the end-all of all art trades on gaia, commercial art, and paintings, unless you pay to copyright the goddamn things.
Sorry if this has already been posted, and you guys know about it, but I thought it'd be very important if you didn't.

EDIT: You should read this users journal. It seems a very prominent blogger was feeding us some crappy info about it. Still a threat, but not as much.

If the same thing applies to all art, then movies, music and other fine arts will become open source and nobody will own anything or have any rights to enforce justification. The companies and people that are already rich will steal arts and copywrite it then you won't have any ways to sell your own work without paying for your own work to sell it.

Despicable I say.

I hope this doesn't get passed into law.  Its despicable.  If you made the artwork you shouldn't have to pay to the rights to it!

So how long is it going to be before over seas artists start suing the F out of the US for this. This is just stupid. What I want to know is who is behind this bill in the first place.

NM I listened to your link. Fuk that Peter guy.

Updated the main thread. Seems the initial scare was initiated by some steamed-up moron who took everything way out of context and posted a bunch of crap on his website about it. Check the link I posted at the bottom of the first post.

Even though I am not much of an artist myself I am shocked to read that kind of thing.  Glad it turned out to be not that bad in the end.
