I flyed the original crysis vtol today for the first time in months...it made me sad in the pants . This should give you an indicator as to how much better ours are (Barring the hovercraft and tanks, those actually handle appropriately, though ours are of course slightly different and have a couple extra...features...oooo man are you guys gonna love what we're doing to the Svantovit this week ).

Psst... Keeper, should I tease them by posting play test footage from time to time to that Flickr set?

Here's one with the Visigoth which is still fast but nowhere as maneuverable as the Sulla. This was taken today and while I didn't fly though the city you do get an idea of how big the maps really are. http://flickr.com/photos/toe_ball/2447923126/in/set-72157604160451293/

Pardon my ignorance...what is that claw thingy? That seemed to be on the player before getting in the airship.

we're currently using a placeholder elemental mesh and the claw is in frame. It'll go away in the not too distant future as we get the real elemental done and the pilot meshes and so on. This is still pre-alpha footage, after all.

One question, ToeBall. I noticed that on several of the vids that scenery items such as trees pop up rather abruptly when flying at high speeds. I can only assume that this is a default behavior of the engine. As a pilot who loves to fly nap of the earth, is this something that will be worked on or will we just have to hone our reflexive skills?

As someone who loves NOE flight myself I know it's something that we'll work on during alpha testing. You notice I pulled up abruptly for trees from time to time. I do remember where some are, but not most, view distance is something to be played with eventually.

Nice, that map is seriously huge. The pop-up wasn't too bad there are worse games for it, if something could be done about it at some point then it would be awesome!

It's actually going 100 m/s which is on the high side of 220 mph. It's a big city.
I just thought about the reason why it looks so slow at 100m/s - the lack of textures and reference points might have to do with that. Once we see the texture splattered on the buildings and some points for reference (not only half poly count trees popping up right in front of us) it might give us a feeling for the speed. I did like the last video I watched where you fly through a canyon and over a dam - already something I will try myself as soon as I can!

more questions more questions...hehe...will there be an actual HUD for planes? a HUD would increase realism feel in my opinion...something like plane HUDs now-a-days. Also will there be actual bombs? and not just giant bombs for bombers but some for the multi-role fighters?

I'm not so sure. 220 mph is slower than most WW2 prop planes, one would think things would fly much faster in the future. However, I realize that the speed will depend mostly on game balance, and it can only be adequately addressed during the beta tests. I suspect though, that they'll speed up a little bit.

Well, there's a hard set speed limit of 100 m/s in crysis on everything, but if you ask real nice, Keeper may figure out some way to break it.
