IS all the way, because they are the best example that sheer willpower, even when you've got your back to the wall so tight that the brick pattern stays etched to your skin, can overcome all odds, no matter how superior the enemy is. I detest the clans because they use this whole moral code of theirs to savagely indulge in combat. At least the IS are scum and know it. They don't stick to stupid notions of genetic supremacy of tubeborns opposed to the good ole natural selection.

Clan, for they are plain, straight and honourful.

My side is that the Clans are full of opportunistic fakes. Their 'honor' code is entirely subjective and they break it the moment it suits them. 'Honor' is used more as a political tool to get what they want, and it is a part of their regimented lifestyle rather than a way of living, which encourages a group mind and allows them to break the code just as society is able to break laws that are not based in individuality. Their way of life is to make everyone who is not in the Warrior Caste the equivelant of slaves, and in many respects their form of slavery is far worse than what has been seen in the real world to-date. In my opinion they are, now, the very thing Aleksandr Kerensky was trying to avoid by removing the SLDF from the collapsing Inner Sphere, and my belief is that, if he were to see what was taking place with the Clans in the Inner Sphere, now, he would be spinning in his grave. Remember, the breeding program was not his idea, but his son Nikolas', and it is a travesty that rewards the most adept killers while the Sibko's encourage the lack of true individuality. Fortunately for the Clans, those self-same Warriors that have their codex and DNA added to the breeding program, have within their DNA the very makings of the rebellious natures, especially seen in the Pryde line; that being said, there may be hope for the Clans, yet.
That enough for ya?

Yep, that's sufficient
Interesting view of the clan society. I don't agree with, though respect it as your opinion, that the clans drop their honor codex when it suits them. There may be some treacherous ones among the clans, but the most clan warriors really do have honor. When it comes to warfare, the clans are abiding to their code of honor (for the most part, the exception proves the rule). It is naive to believe there can be any society in which every last one abides to all the rules of the society, therefore I don't agree with your statement. The very existence of exceptions does not prove that the generality is like that, too.
With that being said I want to point out that I solely support the warfare side of the clans, which in my opinion is superior to how the inner sphere does warfare. Concering the social parts I just can say you're right, but then, this is a sci-fiction universe, not the real world. I don't want to deal with such issues in a game, I just want to roleplay a honor-bound warrior piloting a 95 tons heavy Gladiator battlemech.
Therefore I swore allegiance to the noble Clan Ghost Bear.

Well, okay, perhaps I'm using what happens in the novels too much to establish a pattern for all the Clans, so I'll accede that point.

Okay, then how about this... Sibkin are raised in such an enormously strict and very loveless environment where their only concern, lest they be beaten or tossed into a Circle of Equals, is the process of warfare and the fight for their very own survival which is proven, in essence, to turn them into animals rather than men and women. That being said, for any breach of honor to take place whatsoever, when it's beaten into them they do not breach the precious code of honor, though it may prove the rule in general, removes its validity with regards to the Clans.

Ah, but is not role-playing the exploration of alternate sides of life and the potential to be required to deal with issues of the alternate, as well? Role-playing is supposed to be an escape from the real world, though a group with an excellent game master will almost always run into social, political, and life dilemmas that must be addressed.

I like the Ghost Bears, and I loved it when my merc unit punked them in BTU League in '03. Yes, that was us raiding your supplies undetected.

I'm glad not all mercenaries feel that way. It's too bad those of us who do not are required to take the rap for those who do.
