I think it doesn't matter what a missile actually can do.
The LRMs are described as rather dumb and unflexible as far as I remember.
Think of the high tec you need to build a BattleMech and now think again about human aiming.
Now and in future a targeting system which locks onto an enemy should automatically guide any weapon directly into the target.
Especially a target which is as slow ans big like a 'Mech. But that would be no fun and no challenge.

For better gameplay I would prefer the method of that target widget on any friendly 'Mech to fire LRMs.
Otherwise a public team without TS/Ventrilo has no chance against another team with just 2 or 3 players of a clan.
Ok it would be good for hardcore players organised in clans or even lances and it would be more complex but it can be much to powerful at public matches.

Just send a message over TeamChat that you are a NARC/TAG carried and people will wait for a lock-on from you. Maybe even add a lock-on information string to the LRM Boats HUD so you won't even need to chat to confirm the TAG is locked on a target. That way even people on a public server can easily take advantage of the whole idea of TAG and NARC without relying on TeamSpeak or even being a well organized clan.

A lock-on info in my cockpit with a hotkey to confirm would be easy to handle. Great idea!
Hmm just imagine than the widget comes up and you fire your rockets. Just like in a Hawx video I saw a few days ago.
(http://www.gamepro.de/videoplayer/popup/video.cfm?pk=243&id=video it shows you where to fly to get in best postion to shoot)
I'm gonna loving it. Cheesy

But I hate chats. Most of the time I'm busy with fighting and don't look if someone wants to chat.
And I think a raven pilot trying to keep his aim onto the target while stay unseen or in fast movement also doesn't have the time to type a lot. Wink
Only option would be a "chatsystem" like BF2/2142 has. It's fast and easy to use. But when I think of the amount of messages coming from that ...
It's just talking and talking ... does anyone really react on this talking? I only use the new info on my radar.

That's way I said let an alarm make some visual or actual noise for the person linked to the Raven. The only time you actually need to chat is when you get your Raven equipped with NARC/TAG and you have to let other know so they can program their rockets accordingly.

Once you NARC/TAG something the game should notify all players linked to your Raven. That really shouldn't be too much to ask: Check the HUD for a flashy light Wink

I don't like that HAWX idea. You don't really have to move at all - just fire your rockets in a rough direction of your target. Let your teammates know where to aim at by a blip on the radar or something. No need to let them know where they have to stand exactly to get a good shot at it.

My argument is for usability over complexity.  Remember, this is a mod of crysis, not MW4.  Selecting a target is brand new code for them, so adding anything else onto it makes it more complex.  Having the ability for one player to send a message to another is not as complex, even if that messages takes the form of a HUD widget with some targeting information (like the type of mech being targeted or enemy name.)

And maybe the rockets do have a hard time turning in at 30 meters to a NARC signal, if they are moving at super sonic speeds then it will probably be easier to hit with them in the first place so it might add a few extra missile hits, which is exactly what NARC is designed to do, increase the number of missile hits by about 20%.

I didn't mean that anyone has to move to a better position, just wanted to show the visual HAWX uses which could be used in a similar way to show the 'Mechpilot in which direction he has to fire his rockets. Perhaps even the needed angle for indirect fire. I guess the maps won't be all flat.

Wouldn't that still require a calculation, where you are and where the NARCed/TAGed enemies at?
Crysis doesn't have anything similar so it would be a lot of new code which would probably take a lot of time for the devs Wink
I'm not saying I don't like the idea, I'd like that too, but I prefer a release and a "Maybe sometime when we got the time to do it right" over no release for a year or two :>

Like the C3 thread and anything in "Ideas and Suggestions" it is just brainstorming and brainstorming only.

And maybe in the end we will have a solid idea for the devs. And far as I know they gotta look at this thread sometime so my Raven gets his TAG and NARC like I wish it does Cheesy
