We think Trial of Annihilation just sounds more martial, more definite, more fatalistic. That's the whole point, basically.

A trial of annihilation is rare and quite solemn thing, not to be used lightly. To say it is not fully true is quite an understatement, it is NOT TRUE IN ANY SENSE. Annihilation is wholly different from a trial of grievance or trial of refusal, which is more in line with what you mean. If you're going to change the meaning of the words, make up a new term, such as, Trail of combat.
