One thing I have enjoyed doing with various games is game customization. The combination of Bot AI changes by MechStorm with mechs/weapons from MekTek makes for some interesting game play...the right combo can generate a bot that can continuously pwn your butt over and over.

I've already discovered how to mod AI in Crysis - there is a new mod called the Ultra_Hard_Mod which just changes/adds to the diff_bauer.cfg file. Causes an amazing difference.

So the question is: is MWLL going to have bots? Will they have similarly configurable AI?

Bots don't like mechs, so no bots now or in the foreseeable future.

That's what I thought - My knowledge of game coding is primitive so please be patient! The existing human mesh/bone structures in the game couldn't be used to build mechs, right? From what I recall, the Mechs are having to be built from the ground up.

If the human figures in game could have been used, the extant AI scripts that are assigned to those combatants could have theoretically also been used.

So there is no way to re-assign AI to another figure? I really need to spend more time with SandBox, but I don't want to do that until it's going to be worth my time...

Uh, the 'mechs wouldn't be the AI, the AI would pilot the 'mechs.

As it sits in CryEngine2, there's no way to have a vehicle be controlled by AI without a character being inside of it and being told how to work the vehicle. Throw in Weapon Groups, what normally is untraversable to become traversable, jumpjets and component damage and it becomes such a huge load of work that it's just too high a bar to set. As such, don't expect it in the first release or even tertiary release(s), this might have to be something up to community talented AI coders to come up with..

Yes...I think that is a major difference, isn't it? In Mercs, you *are* the mech, more or less, even tho you can eject when blown up.

But MWLL is taking a different approach - by necessity, I would presume. You have human models that have some default ability (I think elemental) that get into a vehicle.  But when you are in that vehicle, as far as the game is concerned, you are that vehicle, right? So what I was thinking of is straightforward using the Mercs model, just replace a couple of words in your statement:

The BODY wouldn't be the MIND, the MIND woud pilot (direct) the BODY.

See what I mean? But nevermind, really. This is all academic, and getting a bit philosphical, to boot. I got your message.

Keep up the good work guys.

When the beta comes along, i'll look into the idea, although i havent modded ai since doom3, and that was very unsuccessful. Before then i did some AI on Age of Empires 2, which was a bit easier (simple strategy that was modifyable on notepad!)

If i were to do it i'd have the Mech as a drone and not worry about anything else, just getting the AI to make the damn thing move would be the biggest step for me.
