The Living Legends Have Arrived
Written by AoP
Saturday, 21 June 2008
Personally, I'm never getting tired of saying this: the amount of support we receive regarding this project is overwhelming. Today, it is a special pleasure and privilege to present to you the very first gaming community founded to play MECHWARRIOR: LIVING LEGENDS - by MWLL forum regulars!

This article is also supposed to be the startup for something that could become a regular column on this site: a unit feature/unit introduction. If you'd like to see your unit/house/clan being featured here, contact AoP.

THE LIVING LEGENDS HAVE ARRIVED

The officially sponsored mercenary unit makes its debut today! BattleMechs, a host of colorful personalities, and a daring military campaign were all unveiled! Fortune and glory seem to await these larger than life mercenaries. Will you follow their escapades as they take Outreach and then the rest of the Inner Sphere by storm? Or will you choose to join their ranks and become a Living Legend of your own? Visit the Legends HQ, download the full announcement here or simply read on...

Interstellar News Network - Breaking Story

HPG Uplink – Planet Outreach

The Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission on Outreach have just welcomed the latest addition to the mercenary community. A parade formation of mercenaries was seen entering the Hiring Hall on Outreach earlier this morning. INN cameras caught sight of their green and gold uniforms reminiscent of the old Star League Defense Force. It has now been revealed that those were none other than The Living Legends! For weeks, rumors ran rampant about the formation of a new mercenary unit composed of elite MechWarriors and well-known heroes spanning the length and breadth of the Inner Sphere.

Once the review board certified The Living Legends, the proud mercenaries came forward with gusto. Those watching the eastern sky of Outreach today were dazzled by a cascade of falling dropships and a ceremonial AeroSpace fighter escort. Column after column of freshly painted BattleMechs took the field in a crowd pleasing precision drill. They were followed by a phalanx of Battle Armor flying the unit standard, and a large fleet of tanks and helicopters.

INN was given an exclusive interview with The Living Legends Mercenary Unit to find out more. We were surprised to learn that The Living Legends has one thing that no other mercenary unit has ... Media sponsorship. If their name sounds familiar, it should. They are fully endorsed by the makers of the hottest interactive combat simulator in the Inner Sphere; MechWarrior Living Legends. How many simulators can say that they have their own mercenary unit?

We were also told that The Living Legends have recruited members from every sector of known space. Former Commanders and MechWarriors from the Davion Heavy Guard, the Marian Hegemony Praetorian Guard, Mercenary units, and even Clan Wolf's elite Timber Wolves have all signed on to serve with The Living Legends. Exactly how they have achieved such a varied and peerless membership is unknown. From Clan Elementals to Periphery pirates, the only things anyone on their roster seems to have in common are great amounts of dedication and skill.

The Living Legends encompasses at least two full combined arms regiments including both Inner Sphere and Clan 'Mechs and vehicles. Each regiment has its own purpose within The Living Legends. We had a chance to speak with the leaders of The Living Legends to shed some more light on the subject. Our first interview was with the Colonel of the so called 1st Auxiliary Forces, the secondary regiment of the Legends. Callsign: Seraph

INN: “Seraph, based on our report from the MRBC, we understand that your regiment, 1st Auxiliary Forces, is the reserve force of The Living Legends. With a full BattleMech regiment at your command, is there a reason why you won’t be sharing front line duty?”

Seraph: “Don't count us out just because we are the auxiliaries. I dare say our 'Mechs can raise all manner of unholy hell when called to do so. And our primary mission is more than just being in the rear with the gear. We of the 1st Auxiliary Forces are an integral part of The Living Legends. We train all new recruits and help them adjust to our unique culture. Whether they are grizzled veterans or young prodigies, we begin the process that makes them Legends.

“Our independent status lets us provide welcome to all of those wandering warriors looking for good friends and a place to call home; a place where you can relax and be yourself without committing to someones war. We encourage camaraderie, brotherhood, and above all fun! That's not to say that we don't enjoy fighting desperate battles and bringing swift retribution to our enemies. But what good is freedom if you yourself can’t enjoy it? Our sister regiment may be the sword of The Living Legends, but we are its soul.”

After our conversation, Seraph left us to have a drink with his MechWarriors, before taking out his Raven to join in an impromptu war game. Later, we caught up with the Colonel of the Living Legends Defense Force, the front line regiment, to ask about their current military plans. We found him in his Shadowcat leading a line of 'Mechs toward a waiting Overlord class DropShip. Callsign: Overwatch

INN: “You seem to be preparing for war. Can you tell us if your new regiment is really ready to fight a full scale battle?”

Overwatch: “My unit contains some of the finest MechWarriors that have ever lived. Their very presence on the battlefield gives me confidence, and our enemies pause. And now the Living Legends Defense Force have been forged into a cohesive whole, one whose sole purpose is victory. My brothers in arms will travel to any planet in known space, assault any force, and take any objective. I’m absolutely certain that my warriors are ready for the battlefield; I’m just not sure if the battlefield is ready for us!”

INN: “We have heard rumors that you may be bound for Antares. Can you confirm that?”

Overwatch: “The Living Legend's current contract forbids us from naming our destination planet, or our employer. But I can tell you this. I am going to go stick my boot so far up the Jade Falcon's invasion corridor, that they'll be spitting feathers on Strana Mechty!”

INN: “Before we let you go, do you have any parting words for our audience?”

Overwatch: “We in The Living Legends have a saying. In the heat of battle, Legends are born. So listen up ... To those of you playing the MechWarrior Living Legends simulator, to anyone who knows their way around a BattleMech, or can fight in Battle Armor or pilot an AeroSpace fighter ... Watch with awe as we cross the galaxy one war torn world at a time. Listen to the glorious tales of valor told in our passing. If these thoughts make your heart pound and your trigger finger itch, we are here, and we are waiting. Join us in battle, and become a Living Legend.”

End Transmission.
