Basic desription

Not only has Defiance Industries been working on the Uziel proto-type, they have also been field testing another proto-type Assault Class ’Mech code named Fafnir. Receiving field reports of Clan Mechs carrying two gauss rifles on Assault Mechs, Defiance Industries has taken it upon themselves to create an equally devastating variant. Not only would this new variant hold 2 Gauss Rifles, but it would borrow heavily from the Star League Atlas in terms of armor. This mixture of both beefy weaponry and armor epitomizes the Lyran philosophy of size and strength rather than finesse.
Massing 100 tons and almost twenty tons of armor, this new proto-type is impervious to all but the heaviest – or luckiest – of shots. A sophisticated Guardian ECM suite adds to the Mech’s defenses, just barely jamming the radar signals its massive body creates.
Like the Atlas, the Fafnir is extremely slow with a top speed of only 49 kph. Even though its fusion plant is twice the mass of the older machine, it still has to carry its massive payload of 2 Gauss Rifles, 2 Large Lasers and 3 Medium Pulse Lasers. With its slow speed, Defiance Industry engineers have recently mounted an Anti-Missile System on the Fafnir to ward off any missile it surely could not avoid.

Outline

"Size and Strength" is the philosophy behind the Fafnir. It is most commonly seen as large and in charge of most other Inner Sphere Assault Mechs. Players who like to go big with big weapons will love this Mech. However, due to its massive payload and extreme amounts of armor, the Fafnir is extremely slow and most vulnerable to anti-Mech Infantry.
