Respawn?
« on: November 05, 2007, 01:23:58 AM »
Hey guys. I used to love to play on my clans server and have a good ol OBJ or TDM match with no respawn. Th reason I thought it was cool was because if you were the last person left on your team you knew everyone was watching you. When it all comes donw to you and you manage to kill 4 of the remaining 5 on the other team then sneak past the last one and plant the bomb it was an awsome feeling!

Is there any chanse that the way the game is deigned it will be possible to play with no respawn on death? This is the minority of the player base but i feel the people who enjoy this type of play seem to be the more dedicated ones.
One night at a kon, I sang karekoi with Richard Epcar. And no, you cannot possibly understand how awsome it was. http://www.richardepcar.com/

instead of that why not use the same ideal as unreal 2004 go to jail mod or something like that where if you die you go to jail and have to wait on one of your teammates to get you out like some sort of switch or a space on the map where you have to stand for so many seconds and if all of your teammates end up in jail then you loose lol

That's an interesting concept, fdisk. Maybe something like the team has to capture a point before it can receive reinforcements and get its dead players back.

Iron Hands, I'm no dev, but I'm fairly sure that wouldn't be hard to add.

With No Respawn matches and also pure Mech vs Mech combat will be available through the Solaris Game Type. This Game Mode is basicly like your typical TD match and you can setup server options to either make a no respawn match and also change the types of vehicles you may wish to fight with - Mech vs Mech / Aero-Space vs Aero-Space / Battlesuit vs Battlesuit ect...

Alot of these Solaris maps will be similar to the size of maps as found in MW4 and MW3. But ToA maps will be alot bigger :).

the no-respawn mission servers (sunder ;D ) were the best! that sort of 'just don't @*&% it up' gameplay really separates the wheat from the chaff, and makes for some seriously tactical matches. i found the respawn servers often felt a bit too much like an arcade game, though i realise this is an open warfare model and not quite the same deal. but no-respawn missions on a huge ToA size map would still kick ass!

It would be VERY cool, the only real problem though is in a public game sort of environment. Alot of guys would be a little annoyed at being killed and then basically sitting dead for however long the rest of the round took, not really a whole lot you can have them do in the mean time. That would be my only concern with that type of gameplay mode, but of course if you put up your own server that would be compeleltly up to you ;)

I can see that No Respawn working pretty well in Solaris, not sure about TOA, I'm not much of a patient waiter personally. I'd rather die and respawn Quake 3 Style. I could understand dying and not coming back in a Solaris match, but with miles of terrain to cover in a TOA I can see some douche just camping, crouched behind a bush in the middle of a forest while everyone waits on him and the other dude to kill each other.

Even with a timer, it'd get tedious.

Feel free to make a server tho.
I bet people would play it ;)

Hey man, the majority of real war is just waiting, for armor to infantry. :P Except maybe planes.   :-\

I prefer Respawn in this game. It makes for faster paced multiplayer for those who just want to get their fix of Mechwarrior for the day without playing for a minute and then waiting five minutes. For those who prefer the No Respawn idea, you can always do it yourselves, much like Day of Defeat. In Day of Defeat, many people play in their "realism clans", when players fight against each other and will not go back to the battle when they die, they just go to spectator.

For the people who really like that "realism" stuff, those are the kinds of people who will be optimal for organizing a realism clan out of. I'd probably like to play that too, more tactics involved, but I have to admit that it's not for everyone and can cut a big chunk of your players out of multiplayer.

If at all, this should be a server setting. Making something like this default and not changeable is a reliable way to keep people away, including myself. I can adapt to *some* waiting, but I certainly wouldn't want to get run over by a teammate in the early rush for a transport and then have to wait 25 minutes for the round to end.
No way.

heh....tha majority of real war is waiting..which is what we kind of want to avoid.  I think it would be cool though as a server setting as well as for solaris arena (SA) maps.

Another server setting to go with this one might be that if a team's numbers are reduced to a certain amount, a counter starts counting down to the end of the match, at which time the team with less people loses.

Hospital?
I don't think 2 gauss slugs to the cockpit would leave much for the doctors to put back together.

Respawn should only be alowed  on a specifeid server... with that I mean is that you can play on two sets of servers 1) with respawn, and 2) without respawn.
The first server would the mostly attract players that are not directly interested in tactical game or longer campaings. (as BattleField etc. yes I know there are tactical play in BF but only when you are a member of a clan or is allowed to play with such)
The second set of servers is for the more hard-core gamers (the real Mecwarriors ;) ) that are tactically minded and will engage in a long campaign.

ŽNuff said? Nope!
Please!!! no respawn in Solaris Arena battles, that it ruins the whole concept of fighting in an arena! Did the gladiators of ancient past respawn, not in the short life-span...
The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so Brain, but if Jimmy cracked corn, and no one cares, why does he keep doing it?
