I just made one of the best upgrades to my computer I ever have, going from a Pentium D to an E6750 Core 2 Duo and a 7950GT (I'm never sure what the equivalent ATI card is) to an 8800GT. That upgrade was around $450 (both from NewEgg, $190 for the processor and $250 for the video card), and I would be surprised if anything coming for at least a year forces me to upgrade. I've been running Crysis at 1280 by 960 and all high settings (no AA) and getting awesome frame rates, pretty much everything else I can run perfectly (COD4, TF2, SupCom, COH). For the budget-minded, I'd say these two parts will last you a while.
