System requirements to play Crysis and the MWLL mod.
« on: January 04, 2008, 03:04:09 PM »
I have a couple of quick questions:

1).  Will MWLL have the look and feel of Crysis? or will it be more like the past online MW games?

2).  I have recently upgraded my hardware to be able to even play Crysis.  I now have an Intel D946GZis motherboard with 2gb of ram and a Pentium D dual-core CPU with a Radeon HD3870 512mb graphics card running Vista Home Basic..  With this setup, I get a default setting in Crysis of LOW on everything..  What else do I need to do to at least get up to medium settings, and will MWLL be an even greater system hog?

In short:
1. Yes.
2. No.

Slightly longer:

1. You will know you control a 100t Mech in MWLL and not have the feeling of driving around on a skateboard. We appreciate what Crytek did with Crysis, but will be taking a different approach in many aspects. We will try to pick up reasonable aspects of former MW games and avoid their mistakes.
As of now, details can not be given as the mod is not even in Alpha stage.

2. We're absolutely interested in keeping hardware requirements low. As said two sentences ago though, the mod isn't even in Alpha stage yet, so we just can't tell what you'll need to play on which settings. Be forewarned though that we'll probably be focusing on XP tweaking, not Vista optimisation, should that become necessary. We want to make the mod accessible to as many players as possible.
Let's show them our hearts and then show them theirs.

I just made one of the best upgrades to my computer I ever have, going from a Pentium D to an E6750 Core 2 Duo and a 7950GT (I'm never sure what the equivalent ATI card is) to an 8800GT. That upgrade was around $450 (both from NewEgg, $190 for the processor and $250 for the video card), and I would be surprised if anything coming for at least a year forces me to upgrade. I've been running Crysis at 1280 by 960 and all high settings (no AA) and getting awesome frame rates, pretty much everything else I can run perfectly (COD4, TF2, SupCom, COH). For the budget-minded, I'd say these two parts will last you a while.

The ATI 3870 Graphics card is the equivalent of the 8800GT card.  That leave me with upgrading the cpu again and hoping that Vista is not my real issue.

I would be very interested in hearing from others about thier experiences with Vista speed as it affects gameplay..

Hmmm... well I am using Vista 64 bit Home Premium and for me there is nearly no difference between playing games on Vista and Xp...  But it depend on computer you have... I have: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.4 Ghz. 4 Gb Ram 800Mhz and Nvidia 8800GTX (single... ). But i heard from my friend who has similar computer to yours that he has also good performance on Vista.

The 8800GT kills the ATI 3870 in performance.

How i play this is it just for making it or playing and making it

Can a DDR2 of a lower version run on a higher version motherboard? I have the first motherboard intel models to use PCI-e x16 (Gotta love 4 year old technology!) and I have some memmory that seems to be good until I have enough money to upgrade agian. Yes, I know I still need a new motherboard, but that shouldn't be too bad, do I need a new PSU? My dell one is weird.

I'm doing the devel work on a P4 3.2, socket 478 no less, with the weirdest motherboard I've ever seen since it runs DDR2 and PCI-E so I'm running 2gb RAM and an 8600GT and while sharing my screen with other devs gives them a sideshow rather than an animation, due to high cpu loads, I'm running unoptimized code at about 15 fps and that's on a medium spec system setting. Also note that I'm using a pre-released version of Sandbox to run all this so it's far from the ideal environment. Meeting system requirements for Crysis should be adequate for MWLL. Well, I suppose it could change once the artists start going to town texturing mechs, but that's a worthy treadeoff IMHO.

Also, having vista BASIC could be a major factor. I'd suggest getting the upgrade to Premium, as Basic really is cut back quite a lot from what I've been warned about.

Also, my other suggestion is that the auto specs are a bunch of bull  ;). Go to www.crymod.com and get the benchmarker from the site. Use that to find your optimal specs (you may find, like me, that your computer can handle most things on high but a few settings, especially if your running in DX10 mode)

I found out I need another 1gb ram... My new system broke me so maybe next year when a demo could be ready...

Maybe we should look to crysis and see the system requirements?
But in my opinion you will need at least:

- Nvidia 7600GT or higher
- At least 1GB of DDR2
- P4 or Athlon not older then 2 years

I played crysis 'acceptably' with this config

I haven't bought Crysis yet but I've test my PC on the demo and from what I've heard is that if you can play the demo you can play crysis.  I'm using vista home premium, amd dual core(3.0Ghz per core), 2GB of ram(I forget which brand), and a 8500GT(able to run all settings on medium). I'll be picking up Crysis soon but I see no reason to upgrade if my PC can handle it currently.  If your pc is older though go and buy an 8800GT and a new processor and up your ram or just buy a new PC all together.

Remember to check out www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com because they usually have better prices than stores like BestBuy.

Call me square, but that video card seems to be a bottleneck in that machine.

It is a store bought machine and yes you would be correct in saying that it is the PCs weak point.  I might upgrade it eventually but that would require getting a new power supply.  Also the motherboard is not capable of dual SLI.
