Yes! i got it to render without crashing! Plus i fixed a whole load of issues sinse then too. SSS actually works in this scene now, the particals do not depend on render size anymore. My tree actually looks quite good! Ive never done a tree properly before.

Oh don't worry, there will be tonnes more stuff, another mech, an aerospace, perhaps an entire town, dozens of trees, rocks and landscape stuff.

On top of that there will be fire, smoke and lots of PEW PEW PEW. Also there is that that paint job i promised... somebody....

i'm going to go into stealth mode for a few weeks while i work on some key things and details, it'll just bore you lot if you see the same picture of mechs with a few more backgrounds and trees in the shot everytime.

Great work. Love the Timber Wolf, just ain't the nose meant to be just a little bit longer. It looks like it should be longer than the hip/lower torso.
How long does it take to render that picture?

At those exact settings, with this particular computer i use which has an athlon 3200+ and 1.5 gigs of ddr200 ram, it takes 28 minutes, but it does use multiple ray traced lights.

lots of ickle things improved in this pic, blend file fully intergrated into 2.5x version of blender (particals are not backwards compatable)

Edit: bigger version with my old favorite colour scheme, never was very good with colour usage.

Up for using blender, I like the terrain; reminds me of good old Mechwarrior 2 maps. Perhaps the Timber Wolves are a little thin and the sky a little empty (maybe add a moon or tow and some clouds / although I'd recommend to do that via layer blending in PS rather than Blender). But I really like the staging and composition.

I just thought id post a mech i made about 2 years ago when i was learning 3ds max.

I never actually finished texturing it (im pretty bad with texturing, but i love modeling). The model is fully rigged with dummy objects and i have a few animations i did with it saved somewhere on my hard disk.

This was only the 2nd model i had ever done, but im still quite fond of it. 4x LT gauss, 2x LBL, 2x LRM 15, 2x light long tom (anti-structure)
