Still, it would be nice to know.

Can you give us a convoluted hint about when you are thinking about releasing it (preferably better than "2009")

How about before 2010/2011/2012?

Sorry I had to be a smarty  ;D

I agree, patience is a virtue, but we'd all like a live release month. Hell, even a season or financial quarter would work for us.

in that case, just tell yourself Q4, 2009 and live with that.  if it's early you're stoked.  if not, well... you'll just have to wait :)

To be honest i was thinking Q4 was the most likely time for this mod to actually be released.

I am extremely glad that this post has been so constructive and not turned into a mess. I am also very happy a Dev member commented so informatively.

That said, I still feel I was a bit unclear when I was talking about release "Dates."

I feel horrible that I may have implied that we need a date, as in, August 14th September 21st, October 25th, etc.

SO, MOST IMPORTANTLY: It's of course a compromise between quality and quantity. Too little information regarding release and it becomes very ambiguous and frustrating because we don't have a general "goal" to which we can look forward. Too much quality information forces the dev team to rush because of a deadline and we certainly don't want that.

Okay, then what's the compromise? A goal around which we can orient ourselves, such as a general time frame i.e. AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, (not even early august or late September, that already may be too constricting) or even late Summer 09 or early fall 09. These kind of general goals give us a sense of pacing but don't really constrain or bottleneck development. Such quarterly targets also provide a margin of change of around three months. That is a HUGE safety net that's at the same time a very welcome dose of information for many of us ravenous for any inkling of a goal.

Thanks again for the positive response everyone. I'm going to love playing with this community.

GIve the Dev - Team the Time... 2009 is not over.... and if they say the release date is in 2009 for me is detailed enough

The relase date is like the sign in the window of the bar "free beer tomorrow" and when you come in tomorrow it still says tomorrow. And so on LOL.

I think the date should be yesterday.

I'm here with a Huge Announcement, the game is being played already! MWLL Has been Playable for Months! Theres a secret group who ogles it all to themselves for fun and enjoyment! I think they even get together to play as a whole and talk about all us poor saps! SHHH don't tell anyone I said this but the covert group playing this game is a group of people calling themselves "THE DEVS" Shh you didn't hear this from me! They might hear you if you talk about this to loud an you never know what they might do to you if they catch you! I think the release date was... like well over a year ago or something? So the plan now is how to make them slip up and admit to their having been playing it all along. I even have sources! Watch here at this link! http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/ On this page a secret covert spy has been collecting weekly updates of this FUN having Shenanigans! You may now count yourself in the know... the release date isn't set because its already been released! DUN DUN DUN!

But anyway I cant complain about the release date of free content. Imo this will be fun or it won't, there will be bugs even if you spend another 5 years on it (I hope you don't). As long the game breaking bugs are fixed quickly most people will over look the smaller ones if the game is fun.

After watching this over the last couple years, I can see no way the development team can even guestimate at the date of release.  Only after a couple months of beta-testing can they even put an internal deadline on the teams.

No one is being paid to do this, and the development team is doing it in their "spare time".  It takes thousands of manhours of dedicated staff and a full product development management team to bring it out in a 3-5 year window.  While, this is a "mod", it still has the same structures and methodologies to bear the fruit, as if it were a stand-alone title.

That being said, the more consistent the content releases are (Updates, Pics, Vids), it might just keep these hungry Vultures at bay a while ;)

Knowing how you find landmines where they are not expected in the development world, I would be impressed to see an open beta of the mod by Q1 of 2010, and a gold release by June 1st 2010.

If i had to wait over 7 years before i heard news of a new mechwarrior game i can easily wait for this mod.

this is true.it would be great if more playtest videos could be thrown on youtube showing some clips of mech combat. even if it is a bit glitchy

Rest assured that all people working on the mod have deadlines - always did - from the monthly SCRUM meetings and turns to milestones on an internal roadmap that of course includes a potential release date.
An internal release date, however, is one that can not and will not be published, because it's not going to help anyone at all.

But anyway I cant complain about the release date of free content. Imo this will be fun or it won't, there will be bugs even if you spend another 5 years on it (I hope you don't). As long the game breaking bugs are fixed quickly most people will over look the smaller ones if the game is fun.

I can only ask that people have faith in our ability to realise the difference between severe bugs and issues and minor annoyances. You need to realise that many of us have spent more than two and a half years on this mod and therefore almost see it with the loving eyes only parents have when looking at their children, so if we think certain problems are severe despite of this almost emotional bond  to the mod, we are reluctant to believe the average MW-fan who's been hungry for a new MW game for such a long time will be able to ignore or just accept them without serious disappointment and that is what we're trying to avoid.

What I'd like to state is that we're still and absolutely aiming for a release in 2009 as stated in the trailer. At this time, we have no reason to believe this can't be done.

Thank you Defender and AoP for your intelligent replies and your passion for the game, it serves us well and it is good to hear you comment on this. I am a big believer in doing it right the first time, because no one is going to do it for you.

If we are going to go around posting quotes here are a few for my money.
