The "Ultimate" Beta Tips & Installation Guide
« on: December 28, 2009, 04:02:30 AM »
Alright Ladies,

We know that there's been a few people that are having some crashes with the mod, so this is where we'll give you the low down on information to install and hopefully stop those crashes all together.

**** Installation ****

To install, first make sure that your "vanilla" Crysis is patched to 1.20, then patched with the hotfix to 1.21.

Then,

Unrar the File named "MWLL-OpenBeta1.rar" with either 7Zip (www.7zip.com) or Winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/)

To do this, open the file in one of the programs mentioned above, then click "Extract to"

Make sure to extract to “C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis”

Or If your using Steam, extract to "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\crysis"

Once You've extracted, navigate to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll\

In this folder you will find the MWLL Launcher.exe, right click this and click "send to > desktop (Create Shortcut)"

Alternatively you can add a " –mod mwll" in the target line of a shortcut to the crysis executables.

The target line will look like this “"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -mod mwll”

OR “"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -mod mwll” Depending on whether you have 32 or 64 bit

Next you need to install your actionmaps.xml to your profile in Crysis

To do this copy the file “example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml” from your "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll\" folder

Then paste the file into your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\Default(and YOURPROFILE if you've made one)

Then rename your original actionmaps.xml to something different if you plan to play crysis again in the future, and rename "example_actionmaps_for_joystick.xml" to "actionmaps.xml"

**** Hotfix and Patch installation ****

First download the hotfix from http://www.mwlldownload.com/MWLL-OpenBeta1-Hotfix1.rar

and extract using winrar or 7zip to your C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll (or if using steam C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\crysis\mwll)

Then download the patch from http://www.thelivinglegends.net/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile;id=82

Extract to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Mods\mwll  (or if using steam C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\crysis\mwll)

**** Beta Tips ****

-Giving yourself a name in game-

When you first play online you'll notice your name is Nomad. To change this you need to go to the main menu, go to profiles, then hit New Profile, the name you give your profile is the name you use in Multiplayer. ( Remember that when you do this, you have to reinstall the action maps for your new profile like in the example above)

-Crashes-

I myself have had quite a few crashes and found that by following the instructions below, you can reduce some of those crashes.

If you experiencing crashes try the following:

Navigate to your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis" folder, and delete your shaders folder, by doing this, the cry engine will re-download the shaders for the mod. I find this helped to stop most of my crashes in game.

If your experiencing crashes before even getting in game try deleting your "My Documents\My Games\Crysis" folder all together. Don't worry this will be replaced upon the first start up of Crysis.

And remember to replace your Actionmaps.xml after doing this as to not mess up your in game controls.

Also if your willing, you may want to uninstall your other add-ons for crysis as this may interfere with mod.

-Crashing In The Menu System-

Try to disable your Anti Virus, as it seems that any file change in the Crysis Directory is triggering your Anti Virus.

AVG - Real Time protection, set to off or shutdown helps as well - Thanks lessergod

AVG - Adding a path to folder "Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield > Directory Excludes > Add Path" -Thanks Scarfox

AVG - Adding the Executable "Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield > Excluded files" - Thanks Jsnack

If you have questions or you want something added to this thread, let me know so I can update the thread.

I did find that turning off the real time scanning for my AV did do alot to help with crashing. This may also be an item you want to look at if you still are seeing crashes.

I found after a lot of frustration that AVG was the cause of my crashes.  Instead of completely disabling AVG's protection, it seems that simply adding an exception for the "My Games\Crysis" folder will do the trick without leaving your system so vulnerable.

Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield > Directory Excludes > Add Path

(in v9.0.722, at least)

Did you chose a team when loading completed? Loading after 100% takes some time. Then chose a team ("M") and a spawn location on the minimap.

I have seen folks report that removing other Crysis mods/add ons such as Natural helps stability as well, especially in particular maps.

Yes, any RAR extractor will work. Although I have never used RAR Extractor frog, I'm sure it probably does all the same functions.
