Okay guys, I had the same problems but I figured out what it was (after days of manually choosing the mod from Crysis).
I am running Vista (windows is games-only OS for me - Ubuntu for everything else). Not even the command line approach was working or the auto-updater. Joysticks, or any changes to configuration was also a 'no-go'. And then i figured -
"WTH, I'll try the windows auto-updater". To my huge surprise, it worked! SO,
USE WINDOWS AUTO-UPDATER if you have these problems (and don't mind Microsoft spying on you).
P.S. To the dev team - Great Work guys!!! This mod is Awesome, and with a little work could almost sell as a stand-alone game (please don't). It is so addicting that I wouldn't mind lending a hand too.
